MMA Fitness Program

Physical Fitness in Recovery

The Mixed Martial Arts for Recovery program has been carefully designed by a licensed Masters of Social Work therapist to leverage the immense life-changing potential of reality based martial arts into a vehicle for biopsychosocial-spiritual recovery from trauma and addiction.

Participants will gain fitness, confidence, discipline, stress reduction skills, and attachment to like-minded peers in their community, while learning legitimate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai boxing in a fun, non-intimidating environment that puts safety first.

This program is free for clients from approved recovery programs, and is also open to anyone with a history of trauma and/or addiction.

If you are in recovery and would like to gain the physical, psychological, social and spiritual benefits of training in these proven, effective martial arts, please join us Monday to Friday afternoons at 2:30-3:30 at Gracie Barra Vancouver, located at 2440 Main Street.

For more information about the program, please email Caleb at cshearer@twcrecoverylife.org. We look forward to training with you.

Caleb Shearer

Caleb is the instructor of the Martial Arts for Recovery program and believes that developing human connection, and actively pursuing freedom for the body and mind are the keys to living a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Caleb is the creator and Program Director of the Solid Ground Addiction Recovery program. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Victoria, and now focuses on practically leveraging the established link between trauma and addiction into non punitive treatment settings.

Caleb has over a decade of reality-based martial arts experience (both practicing and teaching) and believes that martial arts and mindfulness are powerful and proven methods of achieving liberation from the chains of addiction and trauma.

Caleb has taught many people to parallel park, and when he’s not working or training he is probably listening to Tupac and eating Doritos with his kids.
