As part of our Sports Therapy Program, Together We Can sent over thirty of its first stage clients up to the event to partake in fellowship, camping and most importantly two full days of softball! Scattered among the competing teams, TWC alumni could be found everywhere. Most of them played for the TWC Pelicans the previous year and wanted nothing more than to return to Summerland to compete once again.
For the new gentlemen at TWC, this tournament was an opportunity to have fun in recovery and meet people outside of our organization. For myself, I needed to see people enjoying life in recovery when I was new. It was refreshing to step outside the doom and gloom I had been living. It is important to Together We Can to provide our clients with fun as well as spiritual and emotional healing.
The TWC pelicans were up against it losing the first 3 games on Saturday but winning their last bout, sending them to the finals on Sunday. Up against some of the best talent in the recovery league, the TWC Pelicans came out guns blazing Sunday morning and managed to place third in the tournament. We would have finished first or second but an unexpected injury forced the TWC Pelicans to forfeit against the Choppers. Non the less the weekend but a Victory for our clients and a tremendous display of camaraderie was shared by all. and there were reports of “Never having laughed so hard EVER!”
TWC would like to extend a big “Thank You” to SOA Skaha Baseball for hosting this event and showing our guys how rewarding a life of sobriety can really be.
