Some gentlemen who had undergone successful treatment in Vancouver feel the need to have a supportive recovery house in Victoria but the options are limited, often outpatient. It is a task that TWC decided to fill in. Here in this CBC interview, Mr. Trevor Franklin, TWC Vancouver Island Representative, talks about the challenge of bringing TWC in Victoria and the benefit of the program.
Having a group of supportive people allows the participants to be accountable of their sobriety. This is the beauty of being a part of TWC family that the program wanted to extend to Victoria. For some men, it is place where they can heal and recover while for those who had successful treatment from Vancouver, it is a structure where they can come for support to remain clean and dry as they continue on with their lives.
Opening a treatment facility is no easy feat as apprehensions are quite typical and TWC was thankful for those landlords who embraced the objective of the program and welcomed the participants in their homes. October 15 of last year, TWC has opened its first house in Victoria and as of December 15th, 12 men are already being accommodated by the program. This year Together We Can is looking forward for more facilities to cater men who need therapeutic environment in their road to recovery.
