Mike Mathers RCC, M.Sc, M.A.
Mike has a M.Sc. from Kings College London (UK) in the Philosophy of Mental Disorder as well as an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from the Adler University in Vancouver and he has been a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) since 2012. He has also completed a 4-year psychotherapy training program with the International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis – Vienna. Existential Analysis is an approach that aims to assist people in finding more meaning and fulfillment in their lives.
Mike’s therapeutic style is a blend of many different approaches including: Motivational Interviewing (considered to be the gold standard for working with substance use disorders), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Existential Analysis (EA) and Adlerian psychotherapy. Above all else, he works on cultivating a collaborative and trusting relationship with each client and aims to develop a treatment plan based on the unique needs of the individual.
Along with his private practice on Broadway and Cypress (Wellness Evolved Counselling) Mike also sees clients at a holistic health clinic (Alliance Wellness) and he works as a group therapist in a forensic setting where he co-facilitates treatment groups for men. He also teaches Addiction Counselling at the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training. Mike has an interest in mindfulness meditation and enjoys spending time with his family and he stays active by playing basketball, biking on the seawall, golfing poorly and going to the gym.
